Hello fellow Shipyard Owners,
First I am sending this to all the Condo Owners and the few Town-home owners I have emails for so if a Town-home owner can forward this to your whole group that would be great.
Second since I am not sure who has the city has transferred property tax assessment to yet I am sending this to everyone but if you have not gotten your "Notification of 2016-2017 Assessed Value" from the City back in July then you should ignore this email.
It sounds like the Assessor-Recorders (AR) Office has corrected peoples property values. This issue was bigger then just the Shipyard as it looks like 2 other groups also had an issue. The attached document has all the properties “Block and Lot” numbers that they have corrected. (Town-homes please note it seems like you are included as part of the Hunter Point Condo group list.) I have not seen what the number is in the system for any of your accounts so please wait for the letter to see if it is now corrected. I personally work at City Hall so was able to go review my info and it was corrected so hopefully everyone else on the list is as well. I did notice on the list that it is done in numerical order but not all numbers are listed which I am personally guessing are the units that have not had issues or had not had the properties tax transferred from Lenner to the new owner yet. Everyone who sent me there numbers are listed as are lots of others so please check the list to see if your number is on the list.
So what does being on the list mean. It means that in the next week or two you should be getting a new letter with the corrected property value on it from the AR office. It also means that the Assessment Appeals Board, which is 100% separate government body from the AR office, will hold anybodies appeal on the list until they have let the AR office know you have submitted an appeal so the AR office can contact you to see if you still want to appeal. If you say you no longer wish to appeal you will get your $60 filling fee back. This is highly unusual as normally once you submit an appeal you don't get your money back but I am guessing this since this seems to me to be 100% AR office fault they are granting an exception to the no refunds rule. If you say yes the appeal will be processed and you pay the fee. For those that did an online application you will likely get this before those that did paper submittals as it does take some time to sort through all the paper applications to find your appeal.
If you have questions on this let me know.
