Happy Monday, Shipyard Family!

Yesterday my wife and I exited the Merchant building garage in our car and my wife noticed some movement out of the corner of her eye. Fortunately she had the presence of mind to look back just in time to see an African American homeless man carrying a cardboard box ducking under the garage door at the last minute. We were running late to an engagement but thinking about the serious vandalism we've seen in the parking garage in the past, I quickly pulled over and walked back to the garage door. I yelled in hoping to grab his attention before he got too far into the garage and then opened it up. He was sitting on his box next to a pillar, right before you turn the corner to the right. I told him that the garage was private property and if he's not a resident then he's not allowed to be in there. I couldn't distinguish what he replied but I told him I wasn't here to ruin his day but that if he didn't leave I would be forced to call security/the police to get him out of there. I'm always hesitant to confront transient people because you just never know what could happen if they feel threatened, but fortunately he picked up his box and walked out, after which I made sure the garage door was closed before getting back in my car.

Take this for what it's worth, maybe just a reminder to be aware when you exit the garage and look back to ensure that no one is ducking in after you leave. I would hate to see anyone's vehicle damaged or personal belongings taken. Maybe he simply wanted to get out of the sun for a bit, but the fact remains that only residents are allowed to be in that garage.

Have a great week!

Same women just tried gaining access again to Merchant about 30 minutes ago. Luckily Sean stopped her and was on the phone with the police...

For those that might also have cleaners or dog walkers, etc., that might need access to the building, please stress to them to not let anyone in who is asking them for access.

I had a similar incident about 2 weeks ago on a weekend day.  Same description of woman saying that her mother was a renter in our building in a number that doesn't exist in our building and she was trying to get in because her mother was babysitting her children.  She said her cell phone was out of batteries and she couldn't call. I did  not let her in.
We are in 550 Innes building.

Happy Easter Fellow Shipyarders,

About 5 minutes ago, someone called me from the front door call box stating they were SFPD, requesting to get buzzed in. Luckily, I did not, as I walked down, there was an african american woman with facial piercings and short hair with red highlights, stating someone took her stuff and ran into my building, the merchant. I asked if she was the one that called me and she said it wasn't her, it was the police and they were in the building looking for the guy. I walked the building and there were no police or police cars anywhere in sight. When I got back she got in her car and drove away with 2 african american men.

Please please please DO NOT buzz or let anyone in your building unless you personally know them, as I have a feeling she had her eye on all the packages in our lobby.

Be on the lookout and most of all BE SAFE.

Have a nice and safe holiday

All the best,
Scotty
